Carl Fernelius was born 6 September 1923 in South Weber, Utah. He was drafted in June of 1943, and received his orders to go to Ogden, Utah to work as an MP at the POW camp at the DDO. The Chareya Club was organized on July 13, 1951. They took the name “Chareya” from Native Americans as meaning “Creator of all good things.” The purpose of Chareya is three-fold: Service, Friendship, and Culture to one another and to the community. The members met bi-monthly from August to May.
