Daughters of the Utah Pioneer Collection
Scope and Contents
The Daughters of the Utah Pioneer Collection contains materials pertaining to the companies and
camps with in the Weber County area of Utah. The Daughters of the Utah Pioneer’s or DUP was
organized in 1901 in Salt Lake City, Utah to preserve the history of the men, women and
children who were the original pioneer settlers of Utah Territory. Each member of the DUP has
to prove their ancestry to an original pioneer of Utah. This collection contains meeting minute
books, camp histories, roll books and scrapbooks from several companies within Weber County.
The materials within the collection follow the setup of the DUP by organizing it by companies
and then camps.
The collection is broken up into seven series, each one being a company. Each company is
broken down into camps with two main sub-series: camp meeting books and scrapbook. The
collection also contains smaller sub-series or sub-sub- series of camp histories, roll books, camp
jubilee programs, and executive board meeting books. There is also a sub-series within
scrapbooks that deal with oversized scrapbooks. These pertain to the scrapbooks which are too
big to fit in standard boxes. They are organized by companies as well. There is a series for
unknown companies where items were placed that had no discernable connection to a company.
These items include meeting minutes and scrapbooks.
At the end of the meeting minutes section there is a series for the Memorial Hall Board of
Directors meeting minutes that have no connection with a company within the collection, but
were directly related to the Weber County area of the DUP. At the end of the scrapbook sub-
series there are scrapbooks that are related to Weber County, but have to connection to
companies. These are listed individually and alphabetically.
There are camps within the collection that have ties to multiple companies, and they are noted
within the register. Also, DUP companies and camps have undergone several boundary and
name changes over the years. Most of these are noted in the register, but particular mention
should be made of the Weber West Company (Boxes 40-41). Although the Weber West
Company is currently made up of 12 camps, this collection only includes records from one camp
which has undergone several name changes. It was organized in September 1914 as Camp P, but
was subsequently named Camp K, Camp Martha, Camp Martha 27, Camp Riverdale 27, and
finally Camp Riverdale Pearl Child. Camp minute books and records are organized
chronologically rather than alphabetically as in other companies.
