Scope and Contents
The Beverly Dalley collection contains the materials collected by Beverly Dalley during her time
working with national and local chapters of the League of Women Voters, National Organization
of Women, Women’s Political Caucus, YWCA, Department of Health and Welfare and others.
The focus of Dalley’s research and materials is mainly on the Equal Rights amendment, Title IX,
and other women’s issues such as domestic violence, marital rights, education, poverty, and the
family. As an active member of the LDS church and feminist activist, Beverly Dalley’s
collection parallels Utah and the church’s political and social struggle for women with the
Raegan administration and national attitude and struggle for women’s rights. Materials range
from 1970 – 1996.
The collection is broken up into two main series: organizations and subject files. Organizations is
made up of local and national chapters’ minutes, notes, correspondence, by-laws and conference
material including pamphlets and speeches.
Subject files is broken up alphabetically by topic and also includes smaller organizations,
committees, and groups with less breadth than the larger organizations. Materials include a large
amount of newspaper clippings, notes, pamphlets and brochures, as well as correspondence,
press releases, bumper stickers, schedules, speeches, and political ephemera and cartoons.
At the end of the collection you will find women’s serials, protest posters and signs, and cassette
tapes ranging from morning shows to conference speeches.
