Biographical / Historical
KWCR began on June 6, 1966, as a student radio program serving Weber State College, which later became Weber State University. The original call letters, KWCR, stood for “Weber College Radio,” though over the years, it has also been known as “WildCat Radio.”
Throughout its history, KWCR has featured a variety of genres, most notably rock, while occasionally exploring rap, indie, and soft pop.
In 2006, the station rebranded itself as 88.1 Weber FM. In 2010, the demolition of Promontory Tower, which had housed the station’s transmitter and antenna since 1991, led KWCR to transition to an entirely online format by 2015. That same year, the station also reverted back to its original KWCR call letters.
