Biographical / Historical

The first official student run newspaper, the Weber Herald, put out its first issue in October 1917. The newspaper was published from 1917 to 1935, with a period of no publications from 1926 to 1932. The paper was published every other Thursday during the school year, and the last issue of the Weber Herald was published by the Bachelors Club. Due to lack of funding in 1935, the Weber Herald ceased publication. For the next two years, a three by five foot bulletin board was set up in the foyer of the Moench Building to post stories about campus life. When funding became available to start up the student newspaper again, the nickname stuck and the first publication of The Signpost was distributed on September 29, 1937. The newspaper continues to be published today.

During the summer of 1967, The Collegiate Weekly was printed. The student newspaper was "published and written by students of Weber State College for the students and residents of the Ogden area."

From 1991-1992, a political reporting class produced a weekly newspaper, The Capitol Connection, that covered the law-making process during the time the Utah legislature was in session. The project was funded by the College of Arts and Humanities, and was distributed with the Signpost.

From 1998-2001 Beyond the Grind, an entertainment-based weekly publication, was produced every Friday by the Signpost. The publication emphasized entertainment activities and more in-depth coverage of news topics and Open Hour activities.
