Arlyn M. Garside Collection
The Arlyn M. Garside Collection was a collection donated by Kelly Garside. This collection contains
materials pertaining to the life of Arlyn Garside both personal and professional. Arlyn was a
police detective for Ogden city for many years, and the collection contains correspondence,
photos, police reports, his notebooks and mug shots related to his job. It also contains personal
photos and a scrapbook.
E.L. Craft Photograph
Booking sheet reads: “We have in custody E.L. Craft whose photo we are enclosing, and whose description is as follows. Age 23, height 5 ft. 11 ½ inches, weight 150 lbs., complexion light, has red spot in left eye. We are inclined to think that this fellow is a bad man and is wanted somewhere. Send all information to T.A. Devine, Sherrif.” Signed by J.L. Hobson, Chief Deputy Sheriff, Ogden Utah February 20, 1912.
Ray Dempsey Gardner
On photograph is written: UH1 12-14-49 (INP Sound photo) Ogden, Utah—Ray Dempsey Gardner, 28—year old slayer of an Ogden babysitter, Shirley Jean Gretzinger, 17, is manacled and returned to jail by Sheriff Mac Wade. Gardner will receive the death sentence Friday since the jury did not recommend leniency.
