The Bagley Wreck was said to be the nation’s worst rail disaster of 1944, by the newspapers of the time. The wreck took place at Bagley, a spot near Promontory Point on the shore of the Great Salt Lake, and claimed the lives of 50 people riding a Southern Pacific train, including servicemen and civilians.
