Ogden IRS Western Service Center Collection
Scope and Contents
The IRS collection is a collection of materials donated by the Ogden Western Service Center
pertaining to its in-house newsletter. The Collection is broken up into four main series:
Manuscript, Multi-media, Photographs and Negatives.
The Manuscript series contains the newsletters from 1958-2005 and other documents pertaining
to the newsletters or the IRS in general. The Multi-media series contains U-matic and VHS
recordings about some of the important happenings at the IRS. The Photograph series contains
the photographs taken for the newsletters, it follows the layout provided by the IRS. There are 50
categories, each one corresponding to a department or event within the IRS. This number has
been placed on the right side of the folder (for a complete list see arrangement outline under
photographs).
Some of the photographs have a number which was put on the photo and its pouch of negatives
which coincided with the issue that the photo appeared in the Newscope newsletter. For example,
36-1083- 016: the 36 stood for the category (EEO), 10 is the month and 83 is the year and the last
number is the number of the photo on the negative strip. Where possible the number has been
placed on the folder or the photograph. This numbering system stopped in the 1990’s when the
photos were no longer processed at the center but taken to an outside vendor. There are also a
few slides that have been placed with its corresponding photograph. The Negative series follows
the same setup as the photographs.
