Military Newspaper Collection
Scope and Contents
The Military Newspaper Collection was a gift from Bertha Offret and Edward Fordyce McKean Trust.
The collection is arranged in three series, Newspapers, Magazines and Miscellaneous. The Newspaper series contains newspapers from San Francisco, and Martinez, California as well as various papers around Utah. These include the Daily Herald and Sunday Herald in Provo, and the various newspapers in Salt Lake City. The papers range from 1897-1963, and include December 7, 1941, August 14, 1945, and the day John Glenn orbited the earth. The series also includes a few military newspapers and various clippings which include battlefield maps and photographs.
The Magazine series contains articles from The American Magazine, Family Circle, Life, and Time, all during WWII. It also has a few miscellaneous items which include a list of the various combat and unit patches and medals from WWII and fighting zone maps.
The Miscellaneous series contains an Army songbook and “The Mightiest Army,” a book that was published during WWII.
