Biographical / Historical
Aaron “Dale” Pendleton was born April 14, 1921, in Rigby, Idaho. His parents were William Joshua and Millie Irene Pendleton. About a year after his birth, the Pendletons moved, and Dale grew up in Wanship and Coalville, Utah. His father worked as a blacksmith; he also fiddled and taught Dale to play music at a young age.
Dale served in the U.S. Army during World War II, then married Margene Hortin on May 9, 1947. They had four children: Susan, Verlyn, Kevin, and Brent. He worked at the Utah General Depot in Ogden, Utah, for nearly 40 years, but continued playing music as a member of several bands.
He was a founding member of the Utah Old Time Fiddlers Association, organized by John Shupe in 1975. Dale worked to preserve older tunes by recording them. One of his projects, “Dale Pendleton Sings the Blues,” is featured on the Utah Old Time Fiddlers webpage. In 2014 he was inducted into the Ol’ Time Fiddlers Hall of Fame at the Utah Cowboy and Heritage Museum.
Dale Pendleton passed way October 26, 2015.
