Scope and Contents
The Ladies Literary Club (LLC) of Ogden, UT, collection was donated in 2014, by Karin Fairbanks on behalf of the Ladies Literary Club. The collection contains items related to the organizations history, community activities, newspaper clippings, photographs, and various other materials that outline the primary history of the LLC from 1889 to 2013. Manuscript items include correspondences to and from the Club Member of the State Federation, Weber State College, University of Utah, Ben Lomand Hotel, Ogden Symphony
Guild, and American Red Cross. The embodiment of the collection is comprised of early 20th Century Programs for social events held at the Berthana and Hotel Bigelow; hand written documents by Mrs. William Douglas c. 1889; bylaws and constitution; newspaper clippings announcing deaths and detailing club meetings; slides and photographs featuring club membership and gatherings; music compositions and other miscellanea.
In addition, the official records have been retained in their original order beginning in 1903 and concluding in 2013. Included within the records are: minutes of meetings, roll calls, accounting, and yearbooks. Lastly, the prize of the collection is the scrapbook that provides a framework and binds the entire collection together by identifying photographs of LLC members, coupled with providing context and content for social gatherings during the LLC history.
