In 1965 the Student Association of Weber State University started an awards program, Awards and Honors. This annual award offered twelve different awards to honor members of the Weber State community, and ran through the 1970s. The award categories were scholars, talent, achievement, athlete, professor, and a student from each grade. The Crystal Crest Awards were created in 1983, and are very similar to the former Awards and Honors program. The Crystal Crest program, which showcases many university performing groups, was created by university students, faculty, administration, and staff. The awards are presented to individuals and organizations who have distinguished themselves in the areas of scholarship, talent, leadership, achievement, and instruction. The selection committee is run by student, staff, and faculty who solicit the aid of the university community to nominate award recipients. Winners are selected on the basis of nomination applications, personal interviews, recommendations and academic records.
