This collection consists of office files from Dello G. Daytonâs tenure at Weber State College. Dr. Dayton served in five positions, History Professor, Chairman of the Social Science Division, Dean of Arts, Letters & Science, Dean of Curriculum and Academic Affairs Vice President.

Biographical or Historical Information

Dello Grimmett Dayton was born in Dingle, Idaho on July 23, 1915. He attended Cokeville High School in Cokeville, Wyoming and graduated in 1931. He married Verlie Broby Loosli, August 2, 1938 in Logan, Cache, Utah. He attended Utah State University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree. He received his Masters in 1939 and Ph.D in 1951 in History from the University of California, Berkley, California. His professional activities include President of the Utah Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters and History. President of the Utah Conference on Higher Education. He was a member on a number of state andÂ college committees where he served as chair of many committees at Weber State. He was a member of several professional associations such as the Weber Historical Society and Utah Historical Society. He was the recipient of many awards, including the Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship, the Outstanding TeacherÂ Award and the H. Aldous Dixon Memorial Award. His community activities and services included the Bonneville Chapter of the Red Cross, past member ofÂ the Ogden Chapter of the United Nations and aÂ member of the Kiwanis Club. His publications include articles in the âCalifornia Militia in Community Affairs,â California Historical Society, âCooperationâAn Imperative for the Educational Community,â The Leader. Book Reviews: (Guns on the Early Frontier)Â by Carl P. Russell, (A Majority of Scoundrels) by Don Berry and The Galvanized Yankees by D. Alexander Brown. He received a Reserved Commission as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army at Utah State University in 1938. He served in active duty during World War II and was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict, but served in Europe as the Historical Officer for the Allied Land Forces Central Europe. He remained active in the reserves until his retirement in 1968. Dello started teaching at Weber State in 1946. He held several positions including History Professor, Chairman of the Social Science Division, Dean of Arts, Letters & Science, Dean of Curriculum and Academic Affairs Vice President. He retired in December 1980 and passed away in January 1981.

Each series is filled alphabetically and chronological. Information listed on the folder is not inclusive of its total contents. Some materials have been moved from one folder to another to keep the continuity of the information.
