Biographical / Historical
The Weber State Veterans Association began in November 1969 as a social-service group for veterans attending Weber State College. During the time it functioned as a student organization, it served veterans on campus by providing tutoring , part time job lists, and information concerning veterans' benefits. WSVA also raised funds for at least two scholarships for students from the Utah Schools for the Blind and the Deaf to attend Weber State College. WSVA continued into the 1975/76 academic year; officers are listed in the papers for that year, and a notice appears in the Signpost, 3 Oct. 1975, of a meeting of WSVA . It apparently died out that year, however. When the WSVA papers came to the archives in April 1983 from Dr. Oren E. Moffett, six dividers, four of which were labeled, were interspersed among the papers . The four labeled dividers and one of the unlabeled dividers introduced segments of the papers; no papers followed the other unlabeled divider . The four labeled dividers have become the first four folders in the collection, retaining their labels and order as they existed when the papers came to the archives. Folders five through ten contain the materials which were in the unlabeled section of the papers and some materials which were within the f irst four sections but which did not fit within the categories. The inventory below identifies which materials I have moved and where they originally were . "Veterans'; association organized" 21 Nov. 1969, p. 1. ''WSVA now forming" 25 II " II 2. "WSVA chooses leaders" 5 May 1970 II 2. "WSVA reaffirms policies 22 May " II 2. "K. Gunn McKay will talk to vets" 8 Jan 1974 II 8. In addition, "Veterans Information Corner" seems to have appeared every issue from 6 Nov. 1973 through 17 May 1974, the final issue for that academic year . Folders five through eight contain materials created by WSVA or materials directly affecting WSVA members. Folders nine and ten contain materials responding to or generated by the faculty advisor. Folder nine contains letters from three members of the Utah congressional delegation responding to letters from the advisor concerning legislation on veterans' benefits.
