Biographical or Historical Information
The Weber State University Programming Branch, part of student government at Weber State University, arranges activities such as dances, movies, festivals, parties, exhibits, games, lectures, concerts, performances, and special events. The Branch and its predecessors have existed since the 1950s. The types of committees reporting to the Branch vary from year to year as decided by the Executive Branch of student government. The Programming Branch is comprised of the chairpersons of the different committees which report to it, with the Vice President of Programming in charge. From 1999-2004, the Activities Committee was an independent entity, but in 2004 it remerged with the WSUSA Executive Branch. During its history, the branch has also been known as the College Activities Board (CAB), the Campus Activities Board, the Union Activities Board, and the Student Activities Committee. Among the significant activities planned by the Programming Branch were the Union Building Birthday Party (1960s-1990s), Miss Weber State Pageant (1960s-1983), and Sun Festival (late 1970s-1980s), also called SunFest. Concerts were a regular occurence until 1984, at which time the focus was switched to the convocation series. At various times during the schoolâs history, the Programming Branch has been responsible for planning Homecoming, and this responsibility was officially transferred to the Branch in 2000. Through its oversight of the schoolâs master calendar, the Programming Branch is in charge of scheduling all meetings, social functions, lectures, plays, or other non-academic activities involving students, faculty, and staff on campus.
