Biographical or Historical Information
The Weber State University Student Association was started in 1904, fifteen years after the school was founded. The administrative structure of the association changed significantly over time. The association started out with an Executive Branch that consisted of the President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer. Over the years, additional vice presidential and other positions were added to the branch to reflect the needs of a growing student body. The Executive Branch was the only form of government until the 1962-1963 school year, when the student government was changed to reflect the schoolâs transition to a four year institution. From that point forward, the student government has been made up of three branches: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. The Student Government has always been in charge of most things related to student life, including â budgets, activities, rules, and approved groups. It works hand in hand with the Administration of the University, with representatives of each serving on the othersâ committees to provide input. From 1962-1991, the association was known as the Associated Students of Weber State College. As of the 2011-2012 school year, the student government is part of the Department of Student Leadership and Involvement, a part of the Division of Student Affairs. There is a full time staff member to assist and mentor the student leaders as the Director/Coordinator of the department.
