This subgroup consists of records relating to or created by David O. McKay, Principal of Weber Stake Academy from 1902-1908. David was born on September 8, 1873 in Huntsville, Utah. He received his early education in Huntsville and at Weber Stake Academy. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1897. He served an LDS mission in Great Britain. He returned in 1899, and was hired to teach literature and history at Weber Stake Academy. He married Emma Ray Riggs in 1901, and had seven children. He served as principal from 1902-1908. During his tenure, Weber Academy expanded its buildings and started the publication of the [i]Acorn[/i], the school yearbook. He was called to be a member of the LDS Church's Twelve Apostles in 1906. After resigning as principal, he served on the Board of Trustees and was an active champion for the school throughout the rest of his life. He became a counselor in the First Presideny of the LDS church in 1934 and President of the LDS Church in 1951. He died on January 18, 1970.

Scope and Contents

The collection contains financial records for the Building Fund, correspondence between David O. McKay and Frank M. Browning about the placement of a commemorative plaque at the location of the Moench Building, and photographs of David throughout his life.
